St. John Chrysostom Lutheran Preacher's Retreat 2009 Registration Update

Just another note regarding the registration for the Retreat this summer. If you are sitting on the fence as to whether you want to register or not - I suggest you wait no longer. 20 of 30 spots are taken (or, to keep in line with the last report, 66.6% occupancy). I have already received payment from some of the more diligent of the brothers :-). Do not delay! Check out the Retreat's website at

Great Article and Interview

Pastor Jared Melius of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Denver, CO has prepared an excellent article dealing with certain myths surrounding death. I think it explains things very well and also will challenge some pre-conceived notions. Find it here:

Pastor Melius was also interviewed on Issues, etc. discussing his article. Listen here:

Fourth Annual St. John Chrysostom Lutheran Preacher's Retreat Update

The Fourth Annual St. John Chrysostom Lutheran Preacher's Retreat being held June 22-24, 2009 with the Rev. David Petersen as speaker is now 53.3% full. The .3% is currently under investigation.

If you are wanting to attend please regitster ASAP. I have not had this number of registrations this early before. It may indicate we will reach capacity this year (we have been close every other year). I live by the motto:

"Bad planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

Yes, I know, very Gospel oriented. Check out the retreat's website (helpfully kept up by the Rev. Alex Klages) at http://lutheranpreachers.worthyofpraise.org/

Made me laugh

Pastor Bill Cwirla through a blog post of his sent me to sacredsandwich.com - it is a site of satire focusing on Christianity. Some like satire and parody - some don't. I do. So, check the site out if you dare.

Here is an example of what I found on the site. It made me laugh. I'll likely dig up some more... Thanks Pr. Cwirla for the link! Click the pic to enlarge it...

The Big Bad Scary Canadian Atheists

Ezra Levant has most intriguing article....

This will be interesting to see how it plays out!

OTTAWA — A Treasury Board employee has told the Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC) his union’s anti-heterosexism policy creates a hostile, anti-Catholic work environment.
Dave MacDonald said the Public Service Alliance of Canada’s (PSAC) “zero tolerance policy toward heterosexism” is a “personal affront to my security in the workplace and to my beliefs as a Catholic,” in a written brief to the CHRC filed Dec. 23.
“This policy not only states that there is zero tolerance for behaviours that are determined to be heterosexist, but that there is zero tolerance for holding beliefs determined to be heterosexist,” he argued.
“As a Catholic, faithful to the teaching of the Church, I am by their definition a heterosexist.”
